4 Ways to Make a Healthier Home Office

If you're working from home, it's important to establish a suitable workspace. Many homeowners are now in charge of their own workspaces and all of the things that come with it: layout, furniture and other features. While it's important to be productive working at home, it's just as important to be healthy and comfortable at work. Here are some tips for how to set up a healthy workspace:

Start With Seating

If there is one thing you splurge on for a home office, it should be your chair. Everyone has their own unique needs for support, and it's crucial to have that support when working long hours in the same chair. When shopping for a chair, opt for one that has lumbar support, adjustable armrests and proper height adjustment to fit your body.

Keep Moving

A healthy home office will offer you flexibility to move around. Whether you do this by using a sit-stand desk or by setting an alarm to take a break, make movement a priority. You don't need to do a full workout or yoga session, either. Even just a few minutes away from your desk can help you feel refreshed and ease physical stress.

Go Green

Houseplants make a perfect addition to any home workspace. By filtering the air and producing oxygen, plants work hard all day to support you and your work environment. Being around live greenery can lower stress levels and brighten your mood. The best part is that you can still enjoy plants regardless of how much natural light you have in your workspace. Go for plants that can live in low or artificial light and experience all the same benefits of bringing nature indoors.

Make It Personal

One major advantage of working from home is that there are no rules for designing your workspace. While you might want to be aware of what appears behind you on a video conference, you have complete freedom to decorate. Surround yourself with things you love: your favorite artwork, photos of friends or hobby memorabilia. You'll be inspired and comfortable in a space that's completely yours.

Studies have shown that the better we feel, the better we work. Bring that concept into your home office to create a healthy and productive work environment.
